If there was any justice and a suitable budget, PGS secretary Tim Allan would be given the Wilkinson Sword for life after winning it, this time with playing partner Colin Hancock, for the fourth time. Luckily for Mrs Allan, there is neither in the PGS, so it will be displayed above the Allan mantlepiece for only another year (unless he repeats the feat next spring). The pair recorded an impressive 39 points, ahead of Sarah & Steve Forrest’s 36 and Jim Murray and Jonny Bramley’s 34.

Nick Cherrie pipped the field to claim the Mirror Trophy, successfully defending it after last year’s heroic efforts. He scored 34 points to claim Div 1 from Stephen Forrest’s 32, with Christian Fraser in third place on count back with 31. Nev Appleton’s 32 points was enough to win Div 2 and take home the wine ahead of Roderick Easdale’s 30, and Jonny Bramley’s 29.

The glorious weather and wonderful layout and condition of Woking Golf Course inspired many PGS members to pick up their cameras, or at least their iPhones, and we have a large collection of photos from the event – scroll through below. Thanks go to Jonny, Khalid, Chris, Evan, Nev, Sarah and me for the images! (Click on an image, then click it again twice to see it full screen).

The good, the bad and the…

They play at Royal Blackheath. Well, they did on a blustery day in early May this year. And those who no longer play often (Tom Clarke & Joe Wood, with his wife, Nita, and daughter Caroline), join them for a very enjoyable lunch!

The annual PGS Captains’ Reunion consisted of a ‘small and select band’ who enjoyed the lovely course of what is claimed to be the world’s oldest club, having been formed in 1608!

Paolo Minoli won over all, picking up the The Peter Dazeley Past Captains’ Trophy, beating his successor as PGS secretary, Tim Allan, by the one Stableford point. According to Tim, their close relationship may never recover…

The Calamity Jane Putter, awarded to the top finisher among the non-captains, was claimed by Hugh Whittow, who was, by his own admission, somewhat behind the past captains in the scoring stakes.
