The Wryter Cup idea began in the late 1980s, when then secretary Jeremy Chapman played Hardelot on a press trip. He got chatting to Francis Lesur, the then boss of Hardelot, and the rest is history. The first official match was in 1991, at Hardelot, when Ian Doran was secretary.
Following the 2023 match, Patrick Eagar, who played in the first Wryter Cup, holds our appearance record at 18 and more than players have represented the PGS in our annual match against the APG (Association de la Presse et du Golf).
