Uncork the Bubbly! Jonny Bramley is a PGS winner again.
The former Beeb man took home the PGS Memorial Salver at our Ashridge meeting by carding 39 points – just days after competing a golfing marathon for charity.
Bramley, known as Bubbles ever since the pronunciation of his surname was butchered by the French at the Wryer Cup several years ago, admitted he had a ton of fun.
Bubbles said: ““After recently completing 100 holes in a day, I was looking forward to only carrying my bag for 36 at Ashridge. And what a pleasure it was – the course was absolutely magnificent, and a little greener than I was expecting at this time of year.
“I played a controlled game with a couple of long birdie putts making the difference. I must also pay tribute to my playing partner Jon Jones. We played the whole day as a 2 ball, but Jon was great company throughout and helped me keep focus despite all the waiting!”
Our secretary and Ashridge member Tim Allan used his local knowledge to finish as runner-up in Division 1 with 36 points while Khalid Javed was third with 34 points.
Tony Smith took the honours in Division 2 on 38 points, followed by Jonno Baker (37) amd Paolo Minoli (35).
While several players took advantage of the balcony to enjoy the afternoon sun and some light libations (nine bottles of plonk according to the bar staff), the rest of the society were competing for the Sir Harry Brittain Coronation Trophy.
And old Mirror pals Nick Buckley and Ben Griffiths romped home with 41 points, ahead of the Bramley/Jones combo (37) and Smith/Allan (34).
